The Humane Society of Western Montana is currently treating a litter of eight puppies for parvovirus, a highly contagious and potentially life-threatening disease. This is the third litter of puppies to be quarantined in recent weeks, with four of the current litter’s puppies testing positive for the disease.

Parvovirus, also known as parvo, is a highly contagious and potentially life-threatening disease that affects dogs. The virus is highly contagious and can be spread through contact with an infected dog’s feces, vomit, or saliva. Puppies are particularly vulnerable to parvo due to their immature immune systems. Symptoms of parvovirus include: + Diarrhea + Vomiting + Fever + Lethargy + Loss of appetite + Weight loss
+ Direct contact with an infected dog’s feces, vomit, or saliva + Indirect contact with contaminated surfaces or objects + Contact with an infected dog’s urine
Treatment and Quarantine
Due to the highly contagious nature of parvovirus, all eight puppies will require treatment, regardless of whether they have tested positive for the disease. The Humane Society of Western Montana is taking precautions to ensure the health and safety of both the puppies and the staff.
