With a mission to provide a safe haven for homeless dogs and cats, The Animal Rescue Foundation (A.R.F.) has been a beacon of hope for animals in need for over four decades. To commemorate this remarkable milestone, A.R.F. is hosting a special 40th Anniversary Celebration & Open House on Sunday, June 1, from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. at the facility, 531 W. Roosevelt Road in Wheaton.
The event promises to be a fun-filled day for families, animal lovers, and longtime supporters of A.R.F. Some of the exciting activities and attractions that attendees can enjoy include:

  • Adoptable dogs and cats will be available for adoption, giving families a chance to find their perfect furry friend.
  • Free services such as nail clippings, pet photos, and dog training consultations will be offered.
  • Games, prizes, and a raffle fundraiser will keep visitors entertained.
  • Enjoy music, giveaways, and activities for all ages.

The Animal Rescue Foundation is a no-kill, all-volunteer, foster-based organization dedicated to rescuing and rehoming homeless dogs and cats. Its history dates back to 1985, when a small group of volunteers began transporting animals from downstate shelters to the Chicago area. Over the years, A.R.F. has grown significantly, saving over 1,000 animals each year.
One of the key aspects that sets A.R.F. apart from other rescue groups is its commitment to taking in animals that other organizations may not accept — including those with significant medical needs or advanced age. The organization’s foster-based approach ensures that each animal receives the care and attention it needs, regardless of its background or condition.
A.R.F. also collaborates with PetSmart to manage adoption centers and promote responsible pet ownership throughout the community. This partnership has helped to increase the number of animals adopted, while also providing valuable resources and support to pet owners.
According to Ann Persenaire, executive director of A.R.F., “This celebration honors everyone who’s helped make A.R.F. what it is today — our volunteers, adopters, donors, and the entire community. We look forward to reflecting on the past and looking ahead to the future of animal rescue.”

The event will be held at the facility, 531 W. Roosevelt Road in Wheaton, on Sunday, June 1, from 11 a.m. The celebration is free and open to the public, making it an excellent opportunity for families and animal lovers to come together and show their support for A.R.F.
By attending this special event, attendees can experience firsthand the important work that A.R.F. does and learn more about the organization’s mission and values. It’s a wonderful chance to meet the dedicated team of volunteers and staff who work tirelessly to provide a safe haven for homeless animals.
Overall, the 40th Anniversary Celebration & Open House promises to be an unforgettable experience for all who attend. With its rich history, commitment to animal welfare, and community-oriented approach, A.R.F.
