Artistic representation for Helping Hands: Fostering Pets in Need

When it comes to family pets, many of us consider adopting from a local shelter or rescue organization. However, there’s another way to make a difference in the lives of animals in need: fostering.

Finding the Perfect Foster Family

  • • Lubbock Animal Services is currently caring for 16 dogs and 1 cat who have been rescued from a home near 42nd and Utica.
  • • The animals were found in “critical and imminent danger,” severely emaciated and covered in fleas, ticks, and feces.
  • • They were discovered outside in the heat, with zero access to food or water.

The Assistant Director of Lubbock Animal Services, Taylor Ruggles, stated that the animals were found in “critical and imminent danger,” severely emaciated and covered in fleas, ticks, and feces. Ruggles emphasized that had they remained in those conditions any longer, they likely would not have survived.

What it Takes to be a Foster Family

Fostering a pet isn’t very expensive at all. Lubbock Animal Services only expects the foster parents to take care of food for the animal, however, they have a food bank available too. They will also provide all of the medical care for the injured animals for free. All you have to do is feed them and love them.

Responsibilities Expectations
Food and care Feed the animal, provide a comfortable environment, and show them love and attention.
Medical care Receive free medical care from Lubbock Animal Services.
Communication Keep the shelter informed of the animal’s progress and any changes in their condition.

Why Fostering is Right for You

These 17 animals have clearly been lacking in the love department and would adore sharing your cozy king-size bed, playing fetch, cuddling, and enjoying an occasional toilet drink at your place for a few weeks. You could be the one to mend their broken spirit and give them the life they deserve.

“Fostering is a great way to make a difference in the lives of animals in need. It’s a temporary solution that can provide them with the care and attention they need until they find their forever home.” – Taylor Ruggles, Assistant Director of Lubbock Animal Services

By fostering one of these animals, you’ll not only be giving them a second chance at life, but you’ll also be opening up a space in the shelter for another animal in need. It’s a win-win situation for everyone involved.
