Artistic representation for Clear the Shelters: Spreading Love and Saving Lives

Countdown to a Lifelong Companion

With Clear the Shelters, a nationwide initiative led by NBC and Telemundo-owned television stations, you can help make a difference in the lives of shelter animals. This campaign has been in action since 2015, connecting over 1 million pets with families across the country who are eager to provide them with love, care, and a warm home. During the month of August, County Animal Services is waiving all pet adoption fees at the Bonita and Carlsbad animal shelters. This special promotion is an opportunity to find your perfect companion and give them a second chance at a happy life. The mission of Clear the Shelters is to bring together shelter animals with families who are ready to provide a loving home. By doing so, it helps to reduce the number of animals in shelters and find them a forever family. **Why Adopt?**

  • Spaying or neutering to prevent pet overpopulation and reduce the risk of certain health issues.
  • Getting your pet vaccinated to protect them from diseases and parasites.
  • Microchipping to ensure your pet can be easily identified if they become lost.
  • Getting a one-year license for dogs in the County service area, free of charge during August.

Adopting from a shelter not only gives a loving home to a deserving animal, but it also saves lives and reduces the demand on local animal shelters. **Choosing Your Perfect Match**

Staff at County Animal Services recommend choosing a second or third pet option in case your first choice is adopted before your visit. With so many amazing animals waiting to meet you, you’re sure to find your perfect companion. The Animal Services adoptions page is the perfect place to start your search. Browse through the available pets, including cats, dogs, guinea pigs, and turtles, and find the one that suits your lifestyle. In-person adoption interactions are available Tuesday through Sunday from 10 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. Visit either of our shelters:

Shelter Location Address
South Shelter 5821 Sweetwater Road, Bonita, CA 91902
North Shelter 2481 Palomar Airport Road, Carlsbad, CA 92011

Fostering: Giving Animals Time to Thrive

If you’re not ready to adopt, fostering is another way to help. It gives animals time to adjust to a home environment and prepares them for adoption by socializing them with people and other pets. Fostering is a rewarding experience that not only helps animals but also gives you the opportunity to spend quality time with them and see the positive impact they have on your life. Supporting Your Local Animal Community

You can support local animals in need by donating to the Spirit Fund, which provides free, often life-saving veterinary care for injured and sick pets at County shelters. You can also help by donating items from the County Animal Services wish list or volunteering your time to support the animals in our care. Clear the Shelters: A Lifelong Partnership
