The City of Prince George and the Prince George Humane Society are preparing for their new partnership to deliver animal shelter operations for the city. The new partnership will begin on January 1, 2025 under a five-year deal, with the option for a three-year renewal. The Humane Society is in the process of moving into the City-owned animal shelter facility located at 4011 Lansdowne Road. They will also keep their existing location on First Avenue. The Lansdowne Road building will be the community animal shelter which will handle stray animal intake, redemptions , and adoption service for both dogs and cats, while the First Avenue building will be the cat adoption and humane education centre.

The BC SPCA will also work with the City of Vancouver to develop a comprehensive animal welfare plan.
