The Guelph Humane Society’s Mission and Goals

The Guelph Humane Society is a non-profit organization dedicated to improving the lives of animals in the Guelph area. Their mission is to provide a safe haven for animals in need, and to promote animal welfare through education and advocacy. The society’s goals include:

  • Providing a safe and welcoming environment for animals in shelters
  • Promoting spay/neuter services to reduce pet overpopulation
  • Educating the public about animal welfare and responsible pet ownership
  • Advocating for animal welfare policies and legislation
  • The Pedigree Foundation’s Grant

The Pedigree Foundation has awarded the Guelph Humane Society a $10,000 grant to support their efforts to combat animal cruelty and promote animal welfare. This grant is part of a larger $100,000 grant awarded to 10 shelters across Canada.

Dogs in shelters face varying levels of adoptability due to temperament, energy level, and socialization.

    The Challenges of Pet Homelessness

Pet homelessness is a complex issue that affects not only the dogs in shelters but also the people who care for them. One of the significant challenges that shelters face is the varying behavior of dogs in their care. Some dogs are more adoptable than others due to their temperament, energy level, and socialization. Factors that contribute to a dog’s adoptability include: + Temperament: A dog’s personality and behavior can greatly impact their adoptability. Some dogs are more affectionate and social, while others are more independent and aloof. + Energy level: Dogs with high energy levels may require more exercise and stimulation, making them less suitable for families with young children or those who do not have the time or resources to provide adequate exercise.

The foundation has also established a network of 15 shelters across the region, providing a safe haven for thousands of homeless individuals and families.

The Rise of Homelessness in the Region

The number of homeless individuals and families in the region has been steadily increasing over the years. According to the most recent data available, there are over 10,000 people living on the streets or in shelters.

Fair said the foundation is looking to support more than 5,400 dogs through the $100,000 grant. “Every impact, every dog helped is a victory,” she said.
