Before you adopt your new friend, it’s important to consider what kind of life your indoor-only pet will have. Here are some basic things to know about caring for and raising young kittens.

You volunteered to adopt kittens for a few reasons: you wanted your cat to be able to live with a pet, you wanted an awesome pet that would love you unconditionally, and you didn’t want any more cats. You’ve already decided on the right kind of food your new kitties are going to eat—you know they’ll have premium brand canned food and they’ll get wet food twice a week in addition. Now comes the hard part: deciding when it’s time to adopt!

In order for cats to be happy and healthy, they need routine, so we recommend waiting until your kitten is between six months old and nine months old. From there on, kittens have time to adjust while still being young enough that they can go through their growth spurt at their own pace. Most importantly, this window is when you “know it’s the right time” because that’s when the most suitable homes are ready for adopting.
