We are located at 1409 North 19th Street in Lafayette, Indiana on the second floor of the Lafayette Urban Ministry building (the same building as LUM). To get to our front door, enter through the alley on 18th Street just south of Main Street and walk down the stairs on your left.

If you arrive by 10PM when we close intake, you will be able to get a bed for the night. If you arrive after 10PM, it may take some time to get a bed but we will make sure that everyone who wants one gets one.

SHELTER FOR MEN also operates a day center (open from 8AM – 4PM) that provides showers, laundry facilities, storage space and a mailing address.

The SAGE Program at SHELTER FOR MEN addresses the unique needs of homeless individuals over 55 years old by offering housing through the HUD Supportive Housing Program (SHP) and supportive services that help residents overcome barriers to obtaining affordable housing.

The HUD Supportive Housing Program (SHP) provides permanent housing and supportive services to men over 55 years old. The SAGE Program at SHELTER FOR MEN addresses the unique needs of homeless individuals over 55 years old by offering housing through the HUD Supportive Housing Program (SHP) and supportive services that help residents overcome barriers to obtaining affordable housing.

Needs of persons who are homeless or at risk of becoming homeless often exceed program maximums. HOPWA funds cannot be used for permanent supportive housing, but program participants can receive a variety of other services in addition to transitional housing assistance.

  • A safe place to stay
  • Basic toiletries and other supplies
  • Career counseling (help with finding employment)
  • Workshops on how to write a resume and how to prepare for an interview

SHELTER FOR MEN has helped more than 3 million people since it started as a small charity in 1950. The organization is open to any person who identifies as male.
